============================================================================== Terms: The California State Health & Safety Code is followed in that first time appointees serve a full two year term, thereafter, appointments may be made for four year terms. ============================================================================== RECENT COURT DECISION REGARDING CITY APPOINTMENTS Calif. ATTORNEY General’s Opinion Released on Trustee Appointment The California Attorney General has published its opinion responding to the question – May a city council remove its appointee to the Board of Trustees of a mosquito and vector control district at the council’s pleasure? The Attorney General concluded that no, a city council may not remove its appointee at the council’s pleasure. The same conclusion APPLIES to Board of Supervisors appointees. This opinion was requested in 2009 by State Senator Bill Emmerson, who represents a district including portions of the Inland Empire, Coachella Valley and Riverside County. The AG’s opinion does not reflect any change in the law. It is consistent with the ANALYSIS of this issue in the August 2008 paper, Mosquito and Vector Control District Trustees as District Employees?
